São Marcos

The first immigrants were Italian, who arrived on the margins of São Marcos and Antas rivers around 1885. Later, many Polish immigrants were settled in colonial cores, like Santo Stanislau, Santo Henrique and Edith. Besides, farm workers, foremen, ex-slaves, adventurers and even Azorean agriculturists come from São Paulo have settled down in São Marcos.

African American had influence on São Marquense people formation too, concentrating in Juá and Rincão dos Quilombos locations, near to Mulada River.

In Linha Riachuelo, a location of the town, the world’s oldest dialect is spoken.
